DC Teen Admits Carjacking Lyft Driver & Leaving Him To Die In Maryland Street: Police

A 17-year-old boy form Washington DC has been arrested on accusations he carjacked a 71-year-old Lyft driver then shot him, leaving him for dead in the middle of a Maryland street, authorities announced.

The boy confessed to shooting Abdul Rauf Khan while he was trying to break into his car on Dunlap Street in Hillcrest Heights around 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 26, authorities in Prince George's County said.

Police responding to perform a welfare check found Kahn lying in the middle of the road. He was taken to a hospital where he later died.

Kahn's car was found Tuesday, March 1. The boy and two others were taken into custody, police said.

The teen was being held without bail and faces charges of first-degree murder and carjacking.

Kahn's wife, teary-eyed, said she is simply hoping for justice.

"He turned our life upside-down," she said on behalf of herself and her daughter at a press conference, noting Kahn was the "pillar" of their lives.

“Mr. Khan’s murder broke the hearts of not only his family but residents across our region,” PGPD Chief Malik Aziz. “I hope the arrest of the person responsible brings a level of comfort to his loved ones.”
